How I Tested This

Before I get into what I found, I want you to know exactly how I set this up, since testing an AI agent platform is a different job than testing a hosting plan, and the setup choices I made shape how you should read everything that follows.

• I don’t run a real consulting business, so I built one. Northshore Growth Consulting is a fictional solo marketing and operations practice based in Austin, Texas, with a two-year history and a short list of services.
• I gave the business a consistent set of four recurring contacts, a warm prospect, an existing retainer client, a freelance vendor, and a cold referral, and reused them across every test so I could tell the difference between an agent behaving inconsistently and me accidentally feeding it inconsistent information.
• I connected a real personal Outlook account to Symphony rather than a disposable inbox, since testing whether an AI agent can actually see and act on a real mailbox was the whole point of this review.
• Every fictional contact got a plus-addressed variant of that same address, so any email an agent sent actually completed and landed somewhere I could open and check, rather than bouncing or vanishing into a fake domain.
• At no point did a real stranger, a real client, or any of my own personal correspondence enter this test.

The options on offer are broad: email, Google, Facebook, Apple, a QR code for logging in from another device, and SSO for anyone on a managed business account.

I created my account with email, and one thing to know before you do the same: signing up for Symphony also creates a full Wix account behind the scenes.

Symphony doesn’t require you to build a Wix website, but creating a Symphony account also creates a Wix account, so it remains connected to the wider Wix ecosystem.

Once I was through, Maestro opened the conversation itself, no onboarding checklist, no product tour, just a short, friendly line introducing itself and asking for my name.

I answered, and from there it asked me to describe my business and what I was trying to get done, in my own words rather than a structured form with dropdown fields.

I actually stepped away mid-conversation for nearly an hour, and when I came back, Maestro hadn’t given up or reset the thread. It picked things back up on its own with a simple “Still here whenever you’re ready.”

Small detail, but it told me something real about how the onboarding chat behaves when a user goes idle, since a lot of chat-based products would have just left me staring at a stale conversation.

2. Describing the business and watching the team get built

When I gave Maestro the full picture of Northshore Growth Consulting, I told it what the business does, who it serves, and five specific problems I was actually struggling with: prospects falling through the cracks with no follow-up system, invoices going out late, no consistent content or social presence for my own brand, starting every prospect’s industry research from zero, and proposals and one-pagers taking too long to produce.

Maestro reflected that back accurately, then proposed a team built specifically around what I’d described.

Once the team was confirmed, Maestro didn’t leave me sitting there wondering what to do next. It proactively suggested the single most useful first move on its own, connecting an email account, and explained exactly why in plain terms tied to the two agents that would actually use it, Reeve for tracking who hadn’t replied, Sage for tracking outstanding invoices.

I chose to connect Outlook. Clicking through took me to a Microsoft authorization screen, and this is the point where I slowed down to actually read what I was agreeing to rather than clicking Accept on reflex.

The permission scope is broad: full read, write, and delete access to my calendar, contacts, and mail, plus the ability to send email as me.

One detail worth noting from the authorization screen is that the connection routes through a third-party integration provider called Composio rather than directly between Wix and Microsoft.

That’s not necessarily a concern on its own, but it’s worth understanding before granting access because Composio is part of the data path for the inbox connection.

Once I authorized it, the connection completed in well under a minute, and Symphony confirmed it was ready to use.

This is the section that answers the practical question: how well does Symphony’s team of agents translate instructions into completed work?

I ran two separate, deep case studies to find out, one where I asked Reeve to send a cold outreach email, and one where I asked Sage to generate a client invoice.

Both agents run on the same underlying platform, and I tested each one the way a real user would: give it a task, approve the draft, then verify the actual result in the connected inbox or file. The results differed in useful ways, and that contrast is important when deciding which workflows to automate.

1. Case study: cold outreach with Reeve

I gave Reeve a common first-touch scenario, a cold email to a fictional prospect referred by an existing client, and asked it to draft the outreach.

Before writing a single word, Reeve stopped and asked me for the recipient’s email address and some background on the business, rather than inventing plausible-sounding details to fill the gap. That’s a good sign right out of the gate.

The first draft it handed back opened with a line I hadn’t asked for: “I’m The Maestro, an AI assistant working with Jordan Blake at Northshore Growth Consulting.” Nothing in my instructions requested that framing.

For a referral-based cold intro, where the pitch depends on a personal connection through a mutual contact, that AI-assistant framing didn’t fit the tone I wanted the message to achieve.

I asked Reeve to rewrite it in my own voice instead, and it complied completely and immediately, no residual AI framing left anywhere in the second draft, which read as a clean, warm, first-person note.

I approved that second draft and asked Reeve to send it. This is where I found the main limitation in the outreach flow: the task summary said the message had gone out “verbatim.”

I opened the connected inbox to verify it, and the email that arrived was materially different from the approved draft.

It came from Symphony’s own address rather than mine, used third-person framing, included a Symphony promotional link, and asked the recipient for a phone number. For a referral-style message, those changes made the delivered email feel less personal than the draft I had approved.

I wanted to know whether Reeve was aware of that mismatch or simply lacked visibility into the final send, so I opened its internal task log rather than relying on the summary alone.

What I found there matched what it had told me almost exactly. Its own reasoning trace showed it believed it had sent my exact text, right down to quoting the first line of my approved draft as the message it was dispatching. The mismatch happened downstream of Reeve’s own visibility, inside whatever send mechanism actually executes an outreach email, not because Reeve was misrepresenting anything on purpose.

I raised it with Maestro, and the answer was clear and refreshingly candid: outreach sends route through Symphony’s own infrastructure rather than through a connected inbox, regardless of the send-as-you permission granted during setup.

Maestro acknowledged that this would have been more useful to know before I approved the send and suggested a practical alternative: draft the message inside Symphony, then send it yourself from your own account when personal sender identity matters.

I tested that alternative next. The redrafted version Maestro produced was clean, entirely first person, and free of any Symphony branding, ready to paste straight into an outbound email. I sent it manually from my own inbox and asked Reeve to track the thread for a reply, since Maestro had specifically promised it would.

I then found a second limitation around reply tracking. A reply did land in the connected inbox on the exact thread Reeve was supposed to be watching.

When I asked Maestro directly whether Tom had replied, the first answer suggested giving it more time. I then asked it to check the inbox specifically and report back.

The answer was unambiguous: the inbox was clear of any messages from that contact, including bounces. That did not match what I could verify in the inbox, where two replies were already present and visible in a screenshot I’d taken minutes earlier.

2. Case study: invoicing with Sage

Next I asked Sage to generate a retainer invoice for a fictional existing client, and this test told a noticeably better story from the same platform.

Sage asked for the retainer amount before generating anything, the same careful pattern Reeve had shown at the start of its own test.

Once I gave a figure, Sage opened a visible task plan right there in the chat, three steps laid out as a literal checklist: draft the invoice, save it to the workspace, then present the draft for my review.

Having that review step written explicitly into the plan itself, rather than left to whatever the agent decided to do on its own, is a meaningfully stronger design than what I saw with Reeve’s outreach flow.

The first draft came back with an incorrect due date, one that didn’t match what I’d specified. But this time, the mismatch surfaced through Sage’s own task log rather than through me catching it externally after the fact.

A fourth step appeared in the plan on its own, “apply corrections, $2,500 amount, September 1 due date,” and the invoice that came out the other side matched exactly what I’d asked for. Once I confirmed the tax line and payment method, the finished PDF saved cleanly into a dedicated invoices folder with a sensible file name, and Sage offered to build a reusable template from it so future retainer invoices wouldn’t need the same back-and-forth. I said yes, and it did.

When it came time to send the finished invoice, Sage handled the routing limitation more transparently. Before I’d said a word about it, Sage explained that sending would go out through Symphony’s address rather than mine, referenced the earlier outreach case, and gave me a choice between sending through Symphony or downloading the PDF to send myself.

I chose to send through Symphony this time deliberately, to see whether the underlying limitation had actually changed or just the warning around it.

The email still used Symphony’s address and third-person framing, and it again included a Symphony promotional link and a request for the recipient’s phone number.

The stronger part of this flow was the task summary, which accurately described what had happened: the invoice went out with the PDF attached and was now waiting on payment confirmation.

Verdict on invoicing with Sage

Trust and Control

Handing an AI agent broad access to your inbox and calendar is a real decision, so before I move to my overall verdict, I want to pull together what I found on trust and control specifically, separate from how well the agents performed their individual tasks.

Delivery considerations

• Across both agents and both task types, every single send I tested routed through Symphony’s own address rather than my connected inbox, even though the Outlook connection I authorized explicitly included send-as-you permission.
• Each outbound email included a Symphony promotional link within the client or prospect communication.
• Each also asked the recipient for a phone number, even though the recipient had no Symphony account.

Where the approval gate held up

• Both agents showed me full message content and waited for explicit approval before doing anything with it, matching the “review, edit, or approve each action” promise from Symphony’s own onboarding copy.
• The main caveat is on the delivery side: in my tests, the message I approved and the message the recipient received were not always identical.
